On August 23, the Embassy organized two piano concerts for 450 students at the“5 Esquinas” public school in Buenos Aires. Two American pianists are currently in Argentina as part of a US program called Teachers del Norte – Pianists del Sur, where US music professors give a series of master classes and workshops for Argentine piano students. Professors Thomas Schumacher, Professor Emeritus, and Douglas Humpherys, Director of the Piano Department at Eastman Music School in New York, are here with US- Argentine pianist, Mirian Conti, professor at Julliard Music School and organizer of this U.S. Embassy sponsored exchange program.
The activity is supported by the U.S. Embassy and helps to build cultural ties between Argentine and US musicians. It also gave children”5 Esquinas” an opportunity to listen to and meet  some U.S. pianists and professors. In return one of the school students “Franco,” performed a fragment of a song in their honor.
The Embassy sponsored program Teachers del Norte - Pianists del Sur will go on until August 29th.
